The 5th Annual Bolt Award        5th Annual Bolt Award

The Bolt Award is an accolade that recognizes an individual's significant contributions to deviantART. The Award celebrates such contributions and brings to light the exemplary work performed by its recipient.

In 2007, the first recipient was none other than the award's namesake, Chris Bolt ($chris),  and in 2008 we saw Heidi Chambers ($Heidi)  presented with the well deserved honor.

In 2009, the Bolt Award went to the pixel perfect Stanley Sy  ($starvingartist) who then passed this on to Simon Murray ($pachunka) during our 10th Birthday Celebrations in 2010.

This year, we are deeply honoured to announce that
Rock, Paper, Scissors TournamentLadies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Deviants of all ages. The Community Volunteers proudly present to you a slobberknocker of an event! Sunday (August 7th, 2011) in :#devart: through out the day there will be several Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournaments going on starting at 8 AM EST with the final Tournament at 4pm EST.
Rules
:bulletred: Before each Tournament I will be calling for participants. Only the First 16 deviants to post Our secret word (to be revealed in chat) will be chosen.
:bulletred: If you are chosen and at the time of your match do not answer to the call of your name you will be disqualified and a replacement will be chosen.
:bulletred: Game play is simple. You will be playing a typical Rock, Paper Scissors game except with emotes. :O beats :P, :P beats :D and :D beats :O.
:bulletred: It will be best 2 out of 3, if there is a tie at the end of the three there will be a sudden death match with the winner progressing to the next round.

Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable.  To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day.  This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that :heart:).

Seniority Announcement - 11th Birthday EditionThis article celebrates our latest additions of Senior members in our community.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many others who deviate to be recognised in the crowd.

Laughter is indeed the best medicine - however...
The Humorous photography gallery is so often misunderstood. It's not for creations of demotivational posters and similar things - it's for photography that by fluke or by planning has turned out to be quite amusing! The trend very much seems to be eggs - with funny faces or in unfortunate circumstances. Putting faces on fingers, food and other objects is quite popular.

And of course the poor little innocent easter chicks that get into all sorts of situations! :noes:
Sometimes attaching a funny title makes a photograph that initially wasn't funny into something that you burst into fits of giggles over. Titles and attached comments help to explain a photograph and indeed in the case of the humorous gallery - lighten the mood.

Haha, this is a pretty nice feature! Man, though, I'd include a few more, like Ano Hana, Community, and ToraDora, and even a few Pixar films like Monsters Inc. and Up. Probably just my personal tastes though, since those are the ones I have a hard time finding.
