Quino - Latin American cartoonistJoaquín Salvador Lavado, better known as Quino, is an Argentine cartoonist born in Mendoza on July 17, 1932. According to his official website, Quino discovered his love for art at the young age of 3 thanks to his uncle Joaquín Tejón, painter and advertising illustrator.
In Mendoza, he went to the School of Fine Arts (Escuela de Bellas Artes) with the hopes of working for the comic Rico Tipo. However, he left the school in 1945. Five years later, he sells his first cartoon to a silk shop and visits Buenos Aires for 3 weeks in search for a job, with not luck whatsoever. In 1954, he returns to Buenos Aires where some of his works get published by Esto Es. In 1963 he publishes his first book: a collection of silent comics titled Mundo Quino.
His most famous and successful work is
Digital Art Feature - Fantasy."Fantasy art is a genre of art that depicts magical or other supernatural themes, ideas, creatures or settings. While there is some overlap with science fiction, horror and other speculative fiction art, there are unique elements not generally found in other forms of speculative fiction art. Depictions of ancient myths and legends, as well as depictions of modern day fantasy in the form of divine interventions and other magical or supernatural forces, are very common elements, and help distinguish fantasy art from other forms. Dragons, wizards, fairies and other fantastical and mythical creatures are common features in fantasy art." - Wikipedia.

Digital Art Features - Sci-Fi"Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginary but more or less plausible (or at least non-supernatural) content such as future settings, futuristic science and technology, space travel, parallel universes, aliens, and paranormal abilities. Exploring the consequences of scientific innovations is one purpose of science fiction, making it a "literature of ideas".
Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possible worlds or futures. It is similar to, but differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation)". - Wikipedia.

Glen Keane - an icon in the history of animation
Born in Philadelphia in April 1954, Glen Keane is an American author, animator and illustrator who is widely known for his work in various Disney movies such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Tangled, amongst others.
His father Bil Keane, cartoonist and creator of The Family Circus, played an important role in Keane's early interest in art, instructing him to analyze body forms and the creative approach to life drawing when giving him a copy of Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy.
After graduating high school, Keane went to the California Institute of the Arts where he was mentored by animation teacher Jules Engel, as his application was accidentally sent to the Program in Experimental Animation (called Film Graphics b

PE DD Week: Why did an icon get a DD?Why did an icon get a DD?
Daily deviations tend to be a controversial topic within the community and whether or not a DD is worthy of the feature is, as such, often discussed.
As a CV for Icons & Handhelds I often find it interesting to read these discussions, since that way I can see what the community expects of the features, but the recent negativity on the Icons & Handhelds DDs is something I would like to address, which is why I'm thankful I'm given this opportunity during the Daily Deviation PE-week. I will try to explain why I think icons and handhelds are worthy of the feature and why they may be dismissed just a bit too quickly.
Let's begin at the beginning.
When deviantART first started, it was a site that mainly geared towards customization. Be it wallpapers or icons, if you take a look at some of the first DDs. So how come there'

What is this Awesome Achievement?
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the broken relationships between men and their razors. Donning their mustaches, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health - specifically prostate cancer.
Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.9 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Czech Republic. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign and men’s health cause across the globe, from Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Antarctica, Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai, and everywhere in between.
No matter the country or city, Movember will continue to work to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to ed
dA Related Artists: *EvieParazitedA Related Artists is a news article series which aims at bringing more exposure to deviants who frequently submit to the deviantART Related gallery.
This week's featured deviant is EvieParazite!
Evie Parazite's is a photographer based in London, United Kingdom. She describes herself as "[a] young and hectic photography student with a wild imagination and wicked mind1" - and by looking in her gallery, you can tell that's no lie.
She frequently submits deviantIDs to deviantART (around one per month); she received a Daily Deviation on the ID she posted in May (see below).
Here's more of her gallery:
Art History - Interview with Lyricanna:iconarthistoryproject: :iconcommunityrelations:
As part of Graphical Art History Month I will be interviewing some of your Community Volunteers
Today it's the lovely Lyricanna - Community Volunteer for Fan Art
Hi Lyricanna, tell us a little about yourself and your style of Art.
Hi, I'm Rhys and when not creating digital dolls, my style runs more towards semi-relaistic-anime mash-up. I mostly work traditionally since it's just easier for me.
Also a bit more portable; there are places I can take a pencil and sketchbook that I would not want to take a laptop and tablet
What is it that attracts you to Graphical Art?
I just like characters; designing, replicating, trying to achieve some meaningful interaction.
How much do you think that the roots and origins of Art affect what we create today?
Quite a bit; there are still many popular s
You're Not A PoetYou’re not a poet because of strung words
Together on row upon row again
Of blank verse or perhaps liberal rhyme.
‘Slam’ all you want, other poets wonder;
Your ignorance of couplets a blunder?
Yes! I speak harshly, but it’s no gross crime,
To point with honesty failed verse of thine.
No real poet discards upper case words;
Lets prose crawl on paper like listless worms.
You seek to free verse of those stern letters,
Sever away bleak capital fetters,
But it doesn’t sing of great speech sublime,
Rather, it sneaks of writing in spare time.
Wait! before you throw me in the icy Rhine;
It’s hard to put verse together in rhyme,
To make our dull words sound great all the time,
Hear them ring out loud, like a clear clock’s chime,
Heralding a poet’s summer prime.
Yet the sacred muses weep at your crime;
Your pentameter mangled thick like slime,
The subject not gilded in raiment fine;
Your bold ink font, crystal waters divine
Tastes bitter to the ton

Lilyas has dedicated herself to making our community a brighter place with her vibrant artwork and infectious enthusiasm for interacting with others in our community. It has certainly paid off, as many deviants flock to her page on a daily basis to let her know how much of an inspiration she is.
