In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category. It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one

The Holiday Card Project is a project conducted by deviantART to collect holiday cards from deviants around the world to be distributed to different hospitals and bring a little holiday cheer to the people in those hospitals. This year I was lucky enough to be able to participate in this project in a major way: handing out cards to a local Denver Colorado area hospital. I choose to hand the cards out at my local Veterans hospital and was lucky enough to have picked a hospital with an incredibly friendly volunteer department that was more than willing to let me come hand out cards.

The cards arrived in two bundles, though one broke open. There some freaking amazing cards and artwork in both bundles. You guys are all amazing for making such great cards!

"Replace Fear of the Unknown with Curiosity..."
As the year crawls into the final quarter - lots of challenges and daily photo tasks and so on begin to conclude. I have personally been challenging myself with the 365 Photography challenge - a photo a day for a whole year. It has been tricky to say the least, especially as I set myself a high standard of capturing more than one Photo a day - but also rewarding. Setting yourself a challenge, whether it's following the 52 week photography challenges that are out there, or doing a themed challenge such as 365 breakfasts - is a great way of expanding on your portfolio. Whilst it sometimes means that you struggle to find anything interesting to photograph or share, on the days that you do, you're one step closer to building another aspect of your portfolio.

As part of this weeks #projecteducate, we have interviewed two members whose work is almost entirely focussed on fixed form poetry- and in this instance Eastern Poetry.
In my early deviantART days, Eastern poetry writing went through a popular phase. There were regular HaikuWriMo months, challenges and clubs; some of which still continue in their own ways. Two members who have continued that popularity and developed their skills in these forums are `jade-pandora and *moyanII- both owners of a huge collection of Eastern poetry, DD's and beautiful creative writing. Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing HalloweenHalloween brings with it the chance to combine many areas of Photography whether you are presented with a field of pumpkins, decorated houses, close up spooky food creations or indeed infants and children adorned in the cutest of costumes. In terms of vibrancy, fall/Autumn and Halloween combine wonderfully to create a time of color, emotion and interesting subjects. So it's often difficult to know where to start, but the key elements behind arming yourself with the camera don't differ that much from how you should behave day to day when shooting.

Halloween is about the drama and you can capture this and convey it in your images by getting in close and filling a frame with your subject. People or objects alike, getting in close will add a bit more drama to your shots. I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

Origami is a very unique art form. When did you first develop an interest for it?
After seeing a great little origami dragon on a website, maybe two years ago, I decided I wanted to try and learn how to make it. It was then that I found out that there was a lot more to origami than I had previously thought. I have been enchanted by folding paper ever since.

How long does it take you on average to create an origami animal?

Celebrating Pokemon Red and Green 17th Anniversary

"Pocket Monsters: Red (Japanese: ポケットモンスター赤) and Pocket Monsters: Green (Japanese: ポケットモンスター緑) were the first Pokémon games ever released to the public, in Japan on February 27, 1996. Introducing the gameplay concepts that went on to provide the standard for games in the main series games, these games were eventually localized and released worldwide as Pokémon Red and Blue Versions, using a combination of the engine from Pocket Monsters: Blue (Japanese: ポケットモンスター青) and the obtainable Pokémon from Red & Green. Much as would become standard, Red & Green were later joined by a third version, Blue, which slightly improved upon their features and provided the code for the international releases of Red and Blue, and eventually Pocket Monsters: Pikachu (Japanese: ポケットモンスターピカチュウ), a fourth version based on the anime." -- Bulbapedia.
