Hello guys!

I've been trying to think of a series of Fan Art features. As some of you know, my partner in crime ^Lyricanna is doing her Fan Art Fridays, where she features a specific fandom every week. I also want to do something on a weekly basis, but to spice things up, I'll do my features with a theme as a base. That's where you guys enter the scene! Leave me some theme suggestions in the comments. I'd love to hear your ideas.

On another Fan Art related things, I'm also coming up with a contest idea. Stay tuned!

This contest is open from January 18-February 18 (PST, aka dA time). No extensions.
The process is simple.
Start with one of your own stories. It doesn't have to be super-fleshed out, but it does need to be written down in some form, even if it's as simple as a series of character sketches and the world they live in.Change something important. There's a lot of options. Ask yourself 'what if X had happened differently' and go from there. Aside from changing key plot points, you may want to significantly alter a character (yes, genderbending is acceptable).
Write it down! Not completely willy-nilly; there will be guidelines, of course. Oh my stars and gart

Film, Animation and Flash Mini-Contest!Hello folks! So this month is Flash, Animation and Flash month for the #ArtHistoryProject.
So me and ^SqueakyToybox have been discussing about the idea of having a joint contest! We struggled for a while to find a good theme that would apply well across these mediums. I'm afraid not

Only Original Characters and universes are allowed. Your Naruto based OC, for example, isn't elligible to enter or win.
Can we submit pre-existing works that fit the theme?

Fuck you. Pay me. -- A masterpost for artists.As an artist, you probably will be approached by various people over time. Some may be looking for commissions, others will most likely be looking for free art.
Here are some handy resources concerning the "free art"-people. First of all, there's this handy flowchart called "Should I Work For Free?.
If they say they'll pay you with:
-Exposure
-Eventual cut of the profit when profits are made
-No pay, since artists "shouldn't be sell-outs, but draw for fun"
Then run for the hills and get away as fast as you can.
Because if it's for a game, a comic or another for-profit project, the most normal response should be "Fuck you. Pay me." (worded politer, though that goes without saying).

We are surrounded 24 hours a day by objects that have texture, they may be smooth or bobbly, old or new, bold, bright, shiny or dull. We want you, in the form of a triptych (thats 3 images forming a larger image see example here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych ) to tell us the story of your textured world. Each individual texture should stand on its own, both as a useful resource and as a cohesive part of the whole story. What story you tell through your texture triptych is up to you - but they must be textures that tell a story of your world in some way.

Hello kids!

As the title says, tomorrow I'm heading to Adelaide with my husband. We'll be there for a week and I'm not sure if I'll have any internet connection or if I do, if I'll have time to be on deviantART as often as I usually am. So this is a heads-up that I wont be around to read your notes, comments, replies and check your deviations for about 7 days.

Supanova Brisbane 2012!

Hey, guys!

This weekend I'll be attending my first convention as part of Artist's Alley at Supanova Brisbane. I'll be selling my Pokémon fan art on the Bulbagarden table along with *Haychel (who unfortunately can't be there), *Foxeaf and *Ry-Spirit!

Hello everyone!

Just a small journal entry to let you all know I'm taking care of the Cartoons & Comics Gallery once again while $Moonbeam13 picks a new Community Volunteer to oversee it. Send me your DD suggestions with C&C deviations so long as they follow my suggestion guidelines.

Speaking of which, I've updated my limit of favourites from 1,200 to 2,000. That means a deviation with 2,001 favourites at the time I check the suggestion, will not be featured.

Adventure Time merchandise with a Thank You note!

Back in June, I was contacted by Cartoon Network about a show they were setting up with Adventure Time Fan Art for San Diego ComicCon and asked me to contribute. This is the illustration I had the honor to create for the event:

Today marks the 9th year I have been on deviantART. Wow... it's been so long? Almost a decade of my life spent in this wonderful place...

The amazing ^Thiefoworld has posted two great articles featuring Fan Art. The first one is called Original Fan Arts where he talks about how fanartists aren't necessarily unoriginal for expressing their love for a TV show, book or movie. It's a must read for everyone! As Thiefo says:

"There are still a lot of stigmas against Fan Art, one of them being the belief that you're giving up your originality and creativity as artist by making fanart, a debate that will go on forever.

However I believe, as shown with these features, that you can still create Fan Art without compromising your creativeness and originality. Just like with any other subject, you are free to present the idea in your own way."

Tumblr and 4 Color Rebellion

Fan Art Gallery - .gif now allowed!

Hello, everyone!

In the past, fan artists weren't able to submit .gif files (including animations) to the Fan Art Gallery, therefore having to submit their Fan Art in this format to other galleries.

However, this week things have changed and now you can submit .gif (animated or not) to Fan Art. This is great news because Fan Art in animated or static .gif form can be now submitted to the proper gallery.

My dear friend *YooMe is in a dire economical situation, on the verge of being evicted and end up homeless with her husband and 3 year old daughter. She is offering commission work, but I also thought of helping by opening AUD$15* commissions and donate the money to her.
